Urban Exploration - The Abandoned Slaughterhouse
We received photos from a traveler and compiled them into a historical summary.
This exploration took place in former industrial premises located in the Ain department. Locals told me it was an old pig slaughterhouse.
The reality, however, is a bit more complex. These facilities were once the pride of the food industry in Ain. Beyond the slaughtering of pigs, many of the buildings were dedicated to food processing. The factory produced prepared meals, their most famous being pâté de tête (head cheese).
The factory has been abandoned for a good fifteen years. The premises are completely empty but remain a true labyrinth that is quite pleasant to explore. A word of caution, though: locals often walk through here, and there is a German Shepherd roaming free on the site!
The small town has suffered immensely from the decommissioning of this industry. Many people have moved away.
The offices and the caretaker's house were sold by the notary and the court-appointed liquidator. Certain plots of land, designated as natural zones, have been preempted. As for the industrial buildings themselves, they remain without a buyer according to my latest information. A large portion is scheduled to be demolished soon, based on notices posted in the town center.
I now invite you into this vast and surprisingly charming labyrinth.
