Marie-Rose's abandoned house
We received photos from a traveler and compiled them into a historical summary.
This is an abandoned house located along a very busy road in Haute-Loire. It is in an advanced state of decay. We know very, very little about its history.
It belonged to Marie-Rose and René. Marie-Rose passed away in August 2020 at the age of 81. René passed away in November 2010, also at the age of 81. They had a daughter, Evelyne, and a granddaughter named Charlotte. The presence of a stable suggests they were farmers. However, there is a "wrench in the works": a letter addressed to Marie-Rose refers to her as a schoolteacher (institutrice). We will likely never know the full story.
The house is in a state of significant clutter and has undoubtedly been visited, given its prominent location along a main road heavily frequented by trucks.
