Abandoned Hospital - The death Hospital

Hôpital abandonné

We received photos from a traveler and compiled them into a historical summary.

This is a visit to an abandoned hospital. The site is well-known in the area, as it makes headlines far too often. Naturally, one expects the usual cycle of vandalism that eventually pushes neighbors to their breaking point, but here, we are on another level entirely. In June 2023, the police and labor authorities conducted a raid on the premises. Illegal labor was being organized on-site; undocumented workers were laboring in slave-like conditions and were being housed within this ruin.

For such a quiet, dying town, it is both shocking and disgusting. As for the building itself, the least I can say is that I was warned: it is a wreck. A double wreck, even. After being abandoned, the hospital underwent a renovation project which has now also been abandoned. So, it’s even worse!

The rooms were cleared of all the waste left behind by urbexers and addicts. Everything was thrown out through the windows to be hauled away, creating literal mountains of tangled debris. Except it was never actually cleaned up; everything was just left as it fell. Today, you find brambles and trees growing right out of the trash.

This is perhaps the highest level of decay possible, especially considering that the basement was ravaged by fire and that a man was savagely electrocuted here by 10,000 volts in 2012. Yet, with its strange architectural shapes, the building still has a bit of panache. In this town, where the attractiveness is near zero—or rather approaching minus a thousand—we are witnessing total and utter waste.

From what I can vaguely gather about its history, it was a public hospital. The facility was originally split across seven different sites. For restructuring purposes, it was decided to consolidate these into three buildings, including a large central hospital center. Given the number of elderly people in the area, the logic is clear. The final closure likely took place in 2007 or slightly before, though I don’t know the exact details.

I now invite you to look through the photos of the site. Much like the other clinic in this town, I’m not sure whether to wish you a good visit or simply good luck.
