Urban Exploration - The abandoned train station

We received photos from a traveler and compiled them into a historical summary.

This is an urbex visit to an old abandoned train station in the middle of the countryside. While that might sound like a rather dull premise, the location is anything but; in fact, it holds quite a surprise.

The station was built during the mining era, starting in 1841, with the purpose of transporting coal. The exterior is English-inspired—a tribute to an English friend of the architect. As for the interior... it’s a complete mystery. What charm!

The architecture can best be described as Nordic. Entire logs were used to create a cozy atmosphere, almost like a chalet in a lonely corner of Lapland. It feels warm; all that’s missing is a large taxidermied caribou to complete the picture! You find yourself looking around for the sleigh.

The property was originally owned by the SNCF, then apparently sold to a private individual, and then to another—the exact truth is hard to pin down. The door is held shut by a small blue ribbon. The place has clearly been squatted. Mélanie mentions that charming furniture once located upstairs has been stolen. In short, it is a place left to decay, truly in peril. Given the lovely wooden structure, a fire is almost inevitable; it will be yet another enormous waste due to a lack of proper management. Who could help save such a place? It is alarming.

I invite you to a visit that is truly a pleasure: let yourself be lulled by the warm atmosphere. All that’s left is to imagine a thick blanket of snow outside, muffling the sound of every footstep.
