Urban Exploration - The Train Graveyard

We received photos from a traveler and compiled them into a historical summary.

Here is a train graveyard, which is a rather uncommon find. It’s the kind of place where, in an ideal world, one should return often, as the situation can change so rapidly. During my visit, however, there were no TGVs (high-speed trains), and a large number of the carriages were completely dismantled. It was a bit of bad luck. But even so, what a place!

Approaching this train dismantling site, you really get the feeling that it’s in the middle of nowhere. Yet, the reality is that this facility is located at a major railway junction.

The structure as it stands today was started in 1996. In 2002, a specialized building was added to allow for the asbestos removal of the trains to a high standard of environmental quality.

This train scrapyard is heavily frequented by graffiti artists, who act as undertakers for these vehicles destined for demolition. The track record of metal thieves even includes a fatal electrocution, which occurred when someone was trying to evade a security guard.

It is, after all, a railway domain. As such, it is filled with the inherent dangers of trains—a place that is far from harmless. Let’s make way for the photos; there would be a thousand to take on certain days!
