Urban Exploration - Chapieu's Farm

We received photos from a traveler and compiled them into a historical summary.
Here is a visit to the old Chapieu Farm, located on the Causse de Mende near the Brenoux airfield. The farm sits within the commune of Lanuéjols. It is a very well-known spot for the general public, as it is situated on a popular long-distance hiking trail (GR) just outside Mende.
The farm is a ruin, yet its "Caussenarde" architecture is truly striking. A large portion of the roofs is built of stone—specifically, what are known as lauzes (limestone slabs). This lends a particularly spectacular look to every room, each bathed in a light that is, so to speak, theatrical.
The farm’s roots reach far back into the past. However, according to the heritage inventory, it is estimated that the current structure dates from after 1809, as it does not appear on the Napoleonic land registry. Records mention that by 1991, the estate was already abandoned and beginning to fall into ruin.
In a documentary by KWZ (Lozère television), Michel Roche explains the life of his mother, Mrs. Chaptal, who ran the estate. During the harvest, up to thirty day-laborers were hired; it was an operation of significant size.
As the farm is located in a no-fly zone due to the nearby airfield, I did not take any drone footage. The farm is particularly splendid in fine weather or under a blanket of snow. I invite you now to join me on this most pleasant stroll.
